DROPPING THE HARD HEART
We all know how a stone behaves by nature. A stone possesses an inherent hardness that demands significant force to break. When a stone is hurled, it carries a severe potential to cause physical injury. Human beings who harbor a stony heart operate in much the exact same way. A hardened heart rejects shaping, tightly shuts its doors against love, and ultimately inflicts deep wounds on the people living right next door. The Christian life calls us away from becoming stumbling blocks to our neighbors. We must not allow bad habits, arrogance, and persistent anxiety to occupy the inner chambers of our soul. If our thoughts continually drift toward the negative and the judgmental, the actions and decisions we execute will inevitably result in failure. When we lack the capacity to speak something genuinely good, we must at least discipline ourselves to withhold gossip concerning the flaws and failures of others. The biblical mandate in Romans 14:19 points us toward a deliberate pursuit: chasing after things that foster peace and mutual edification. When malice and hatred find no storage room within our inner being, our daily existence settles into a profound tranquility. True peace originates from a clean heart transformed completely by the grace of Christ. Let us cast off every trace of stubborn hardness that merely provokes the wrath of God. Instead, let us cultivate a tender heart, one readily attuned to the whispers of the Holy Spirit, so we may walk steadily within His divine design and function as a refreshing blessing to everyone around us.
