LOVE THAT CHOOSES NO FAVORITES
It comes naturally to human nature to love those who treat us nicely and return favors to those who help us out. Secular society operates entirely on this transactional principle of quid pro quo. Yet as disciples of Christ, we are called to a moral standard that far exceeds worldly ethicsโa standard defined by extraordinary love.
Jesus established a radical benchmark for love. On the night before His crucifixion, He humbled Himself to wash the feet of Judas Iscariot, the very disciple who plotted His betrayal. On the cross, He used His dying breath to pray for the soldiers executing Him. This is Agape loveโgiving even when the recipient is utterly undeserving, and sacrificing without demanding anything in return.
Your Christian character is truly tested when you face adversaries. Can you respond to hostility with a blessing? When God places difficult people in your pathโsuch as a backstabbing coworker or a cynical neighborโrecognize them not as tormentors, but as instruments designed to exercise your spiritual muscles.
Stand apart in a selfish world. When others retaliate, respond with genuine goodness. Through this unconditional love, the world will see undeniable proof that Christ lives and reigns in your heart.
