BRIBERY UNDERMINES JUSTICE
Our world today operates on a bargaining table where everything seems to have its own price tag. From courtrooms to small office bureaucracies, brown envelopes and under-the-table facilities are often treated as the lubricants of daily life. People easily fold their consciences and sell out their principles for fleeting, temporary gains. God's Word today strips away this moral rot without beating around the bush. Bribery is not merely a violation of positive law, but a blatant rebellion against the righteous character of God.
The Book of Proverbs does not speak of abstract ethical theories in the clouds, but addresses the rotten reality of the fallen human heart. When someone hides money within the folds of a garment to bribe a judge or an official, what gets crushed is not just procedural protocol, but the survival certainty of the oppressed poor. Justice loses its directional compass the moment hard cash dictates the verdict. God sees every dark transaction hidden tightly away from public view, and He never closes His eyes to veiled oppression.
As believers, the temptation to play along with this corrupt system is very real every single day. We often make excuses for the sake of family security or business smoothness to justify taking shortcuts that violate our integrity. Yet, Christianity demands a high price: standing firm on truth even when it brings financial disadvantage. God calls us to be lighthouses of honesty in a society that justifies any means for money.
Today's Reflection Points:
- Beware of Small Compromises: Unjust gifts or facilitation payments always start from minor tolerances treated as trivialities.
- Maintain a Pure Conscience: Let the fear of the Lord be the primary fortress that rejects all forms of bribery and injustice.
Let us humble ourselves before the holy God and ask for His strength every morning. Do not let our hearts be turned aside by the glitter of wealth acquired through crooked paths that destroy our neighbors. May the Holy Spirit keep our hands and minds clean in this filthy world.
God bless you!
