THE TRIUMPHANT MEANING BEHIND THE ASCENSION OF OUR LORD JESUS
For humanity, a departure is almost always synonymous with deep sorrow and a profound sense of loss. That exact turbulence of emotion was likely gripping the disciples' hearts as they stood on the Mount of Olives, watching Jesus slowly lift into the clouds until He vanished from their sight. Humanly speaking, it felt entirely like being abandoned by a Master and Protector who served as their sole anchor in life.
Yet, when we dive deeper into the truth of His word, the ascension of our Lord Jesus is by no means a tragic farewell to be mourned. Instead, this event stands as a proclamation of ultimate victory that forms the foundational strength for the church across all eras. Jesus returned to His glorious throne to fulfill the complete plan of salvation for humanity.
Today's Reflection Points:
- The Guarantee of Advocacy in Heaven: Jesus ascended to heaven not to rest and forget us, but to sit at the right hand of God the Father as our Great High Priest. When you run out of words to pray, remember that Christ always lives to make intercession and procure grace for you.
- The Boundless Presence of the Holy Spirit: During His earthly walk in human flesh, Jesus' ministry was restricted by space and time. However, through His ascension, the Father sent the Helper down to earth, meaning God's presence now accompanies you twenty-four hours a day, no matter where you are.
- The Call to Be Light: The angels rebuked the disciples for simply staring fixedly into the sky. God does not want His church to adopt a passive stance waiting for the end times; rather, we are called to shift our gaze back to the earth and begin executing our task: bringing Christ's love, justice, and light to those around us.
Let us walk through our days with an unwavering hope. May our family life, workplace integrity, and service to others serve as living proof that we are actively keeping watch for His return. Stand firm, because the God we worship holds absolute control over our lives! -TPC
