BE A BEREAN CHURCH IN THE DIGITAL ERA
When the Apostle Paul planted the seed of the word in Berea, the believers there did not simply nod in agreement and swallow everything blindly, even though the preacher was a major apostle. Scripture actually records and commends their critical posture. They possessed a readiness of heart to receive, yet balanced with the intellectual discipline to examine the Scriptures daily to test the truth of the teaching. This is the most crucial parameter we must adopt when evaluating various teachings in today's fast-paced digital content era: Return to the Bible! When you listen to a teaching that sounds new, overly bizarre, or too sensational on social media platforms, do not rush to hit the share button or swallow it raw. Be spiritually intelligent. Ask yourself: Is the quoted verse deliberately carved out to justify the speaker's opinion? Does the teaching demand self-denial, or merely pamper our lusts and selfishness? Do not hesitate to discuss and ask spiritual leaders or pastors in your local church who have an accountable track record of teaching and ministry. Having an open mind is good, but do not let your mind be so open that the garbage of deception enters. Ask for wisdom and sensitivity from the Holy Spirit every time you listen to a sermon, so you always walk in true truth.
