THE FREEDOM FOUND BEHIND FORGIVENESS
Weekends are typically associated with time to gather with family, friends, or fellow believers. Yet ironically, it is precisely within these circles of closest relationships that the deepest emotional wounds are often inflicted. Sharp words leave behind scars of bitterness, or unfair treatments linger stubbornly in our memories. Humanly speaking, our natural instinct demands retaliation or at least the erection of defensive walls by avoiding and giving the silent treatment to those who have hurt us. We mistakenly assume that holding onto grudges is an effective way to punish them.
Yet, the reality is entirely the opposite. Harboring bitterness and refusing to forgive is simply akin to drinking poison every day while hoping that someone else will die from it. Unwillingness to forgive only serves to shackle our own inner peace. Christianity places forgiveness at a profoundly crucial position, because it is precisely there that the character of Christ is reflected most perfectly.
Today, let us examine the private chambers of our hearts once again. If there are still names that evoke a sense of tightness in your chest when remembered, bring those names before God in prayer. Ask the Holy Spirit for the strength to be enabled to forgive, just as Christ has already forgiven our countless sins.
May the Lord Jesus bless you!
