STRAIGHTENING OUT THE PURPOSE OF WORK
Greetings, friends in Christ.
There is a common saying that we should simply love our paychecks and enjoy the money we earn, without needing to enjoy the work itself. This mindset usually surfaces when we feel burned out, bored, or pressured in our workplaces. Yet, if money becomes the sole reason we punch the clock, we inevitably strip our daily routines of their deepest meaning.
The Bible reminds us in Ecclesiastes 3:13 that being able to eat, drink, and find satisfaction in our toil is actually a gift from God. Paychecks meet our physical needs, but fixating on wealth while resenting the labor required to get it leaves the human soul hollow and perpetually underwhelmed.
Today's reflection points us to two vital truths: first, money is never the ultimate destination. Second, the very capacity to work and harvest the fruit of our labor is a grace bestowed by our Creator. We must learn to cultivate gratitude for the work in our hands right now, appreciating the sweat and the struggle just as much as the payday at the end of the month. May the Lord bless your workweek.
