"Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up."
A NEW CREATION IN CHRIST
The world continuously measures a person by outward transformations—social standing, age, moralistic behavior, or physical religious rituals such as baptism status. Yet, the true transformation demanded by the Gospel is not an external moral polish, but a radical spiritual rebirth. To the perishing world, the preaching of the cross and the call to deny oneself is sheer foolishness (1 Corinthians 1:18). The world craves glory without the cross and self-justification apart from God's sovereignty. But to us who are saved, the cross is the gateway to an entirely new spiritual reality in Christ.
In 2 Corinthians 5:17-18, the Apostle Paul declares that to be 'in Christ' makes one a new creature (kaine ktisis). This new creation is not physical aging or external reformation, but an inward spiritual re-creation wrought by the Holy Spirit. Salvation is entirely by grace (sola gratia). Consider two men drowning in the ocean: one is 10 meters underwater due to lesser moral failures, while the other is 100 meters deep under massive transgressions. Can the one at 10 meters save himself through his own 'good works'? Absolutely not! Both are equally dead and helpless. Whether one possesses many moral deeds or an abundance of sins, both stand in absolute need of the same divine grace secured through Christ's sacrifice on the cross.
Understanding that we are a new creation by grace compels us to take up our cross and deny ourselves daily. We no longer live for ourselves or boast in physical righteousness. Whether young or old, newly converted or baptized long ago, our primary identity is anchored in Christ's work of reconciliation. We are called to shed the old sinful identity and walk boldly in the new spiritual identity governed by the Holy Spirit.
Today's Reflection Points:
- Denying Self and Taking the Cross: Renouncing self-righteousness and earthly pride to depend wholly on the finished work of Christ's cross.
- Embracing the New Creation Identity: Living out the spiritual reality regenerated by the Holy Spirit rather than relying on external religious routines.
Your salvation is purely the sovereign grace of God that no amount of good works could ever purchase. In Christ, your old status defined by past failures and empty pride has passed away. The cross of Christ has rendered you a brand-new spiritual creation. Walk today in the freedom of reconciliation and loving obedience to Him. God bless you!
