FREEDOM THAT EDIFIES OTHERS

In a world that highly exalts individual freedom, we are often encouraged to do whatever we desire as long as it does not break the law. We often feel entitled to enjoy our rights without considering their impact on those around us. However, as children of God who have been set free by Christ, our perspective on freedom must be distinct and deeply rooted in love.

The Apostle Paul reminds the church in Corinth through 1 Corinthians 10:23, "All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not." Christian freedom is not a license to live carelessly to satisfy selfish desires. Although Christ has set us free from the bondage of sin, the primary consideration in our decisions should not merely be "Is this allowed?", but rather "Is this beneficial for my life and does it edify the faith of others?".

In daily life, this principle calls us to be wiser in our speech, entertainment, lifestyle, and even social media usage. Before we speak, act, or share something, let us ask our hearts whether it brings goodness and strengthens others. When we learn to limit our personal freedom for the sake of love for Christ and others, that is where our spiritual maturity shines beautifully.
