"Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us."
NUMBERING OUR DAYS WITH WISDOM
December 31st always brings a quiet weight as we sit and watch the final pages of the calendar turn. Sometimes we feel a sense of satisfaction over our progress, yet often we are haunted by a lingering regret over missed opportunities. Most people rush to draft new resolutions without ever taking a honest look at where their lives are actually headed. We can easily hang a new calendar on the wall, but we can never recover a single second that has passed. Before the midnight celebration begins, we need to pause and face the sobering reality of our mortality before God.
Moses wrote Psalm 90 in the wilderness after watching an entire generation of Israel perish due to their rebellion. He understood deeply how fleeting and fragile human life is when contrasted with the eternal sovereignty of God. When Moses prayed for God to teach the people to 'number their days', he was not talking about basic mathematics or counting biological age. The word 'number' implies evaluating each day with the acute awareness that life has limits and every moment will be held accountable before the Creator.
As we enter a new year, true success is not measured by how much wealth or status we managed to accumulate over the last 365 days. True success is found when our hearts become wiser, more reverent toward God, and more attuned to His will. Do not allow the upcoming year to be a mere repetition of empty routines devoid of eternal value. Let us bring the failures of this past year to the foot of the cross, and step into the future with a life genuinely focused on Jesus Christ.
Today's Reflection Points:
- Honest Evaluation: Take time tonight to review your priorities over the past year, checking whether they were centered on God or self-centered ambition.
- Daily Obedience: Begin the new year not with lofty, unrealistic resolutions, but with a humble commitment to be faithful in daily, small acts of obedience.
- Living for Eternity: Remind yourself daily that your time on earth is short, and align your investments with eternal treasures rather than temporary comforts.
Closing the year does not mean closing the book of our hope in God. Whatever losses, griefs, or setbacks you faced this year, the mercies of the Lord are not consumed. Trust His promise that the God who carried you to this moment will walk alongside you in the year ahead. Set your heart to rely fully on Christ for every single step to come.
God bless you!
