HONORING LIFE AND GUARDING THE TONGUE

Passage: 'Through him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name. And do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.' โ€“ Hebrews 13:15-16

HONORING LIFE AND GUARDING THE TONGUE

Have you ever paid attention to the people around us who must struggle bitterly just to earn a plate of rice? They work with relentless tenacity, pushing the limits from early morning, through the afternoon, until late into the night. Bad weather and physically exhausting conditions are ignored simply to maintain basic survival. Moreover, not a few of them lack even a decent place to call home. This kind of scenery ought to slap our arrogance awake and produce a profound sense of gratitude for every blessing of food, shelter, time, and love that God has steadily provided in our lives.

Besides being summoned to maintain a heart full of gratitude, we also bear the moral responsibility to guard the offering of our lips. Do not let uncertain matters or momentary anger destroy the peace that is already present. Stop uttering harsh, crude, and impolite words, because such speech only wounds the hearts of our neighbors. Instead, accustom yourselves to speaking words of apology, gentleness, and beauty to soothe the souls of those who hear them.

Scripture Reference:
'Through him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name. And do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.' โ€“ Hebrews 13:15-16

Reflection Points for Today:
- Thanking God for the Blessings of Life: Learn to continually appreciate what you currently possess. Gratitude will keep us from actions that damage our own inner peace as well as the peace of others.
- Speech as a Sacrifice of Praise: Our lifestyle and manner of speech serve as the barometer of our spiritual maturity as well as a magnet drawing souls to Christ. Control your tongue to constantly speak what is good.

God desires us to labor and speak in a righteous manner, ensuring every step we take becomes a living testimony. Starting today, say 'No' to idle talk, and let your lips become a channel of blessing that glorifies our Father in heaven. -TPC

God bless you!
