THE HEART'S ATTITUDE DICTATES EVERY ACTION

Passage: 'Examine me, O God, and know my heart; test me, and know my anxious thoughts.' – Psalm 139:23

THE HEART'S ATTITUDE DICTATES EVERY ACTION

The human heart functions much like an underground spring. If that water source is polluted, whatever flows downstream will inevitably carry filth and decay. Given how critical its role is, Scripture specifically commands us to guard our hearts with all diligence. Unfortunately, the heart never cleanses itself automatically. It demands a persistent, disciplined effort to evaluate the hidden motives lurking deep within, because whatever spills over into our outward behavior is merely a mirror reflecting our inner state. The single greatest obstacle we face in self-evaluation is our own towering ego, pride, and an inherent reluctance to undergo radical change. We frequently master the art of acting, masking our true intentions so we appear righteous and respectable before other people. We easily forget that while human eyes can only scan surface appearances, the gaze of God penetrates straight to the bedrock of our souls. Therefore, we desperately need the profound humility modeled by King David, who willingly and voluntarily surrendered his innermost being to be continuously searched and tested by the Creator. Guarding the heart is not a passive wish; it is a relentless, moment-by-moment spiritual battle. It must begin the very second we open our eyes in the morning, quietly sitting before God to surrender our stray thoughts entirely to Him. Let us alter our daily routines by starting each day with gratitude for His grace, asking the Holy Spirit for the strength to govern every word and deed throughout the hours ahead.
