WHEN WE PETITION GOD
Let us honestly evaluate how we have been praying all this time. Who is God in your eyes? Consciously or not, we often treat God as if He were merely a 'Human Resources Staff' whose job is to stamp 'Approval' on every proposal of our desires. We come with a series of selfish demands: 'God, I like him, please remove my rival!' or 'God, get me accepted into this company with a certain salary.' Even more fatally, we dare to dictate to God by twisting spiritual phrases: 'God, if this is Your will, then make my plan succeed today.' There is nothing wrong with offering petitions; God is a caring Father. However, we must remember with trembling awe that He is the Absolute Sovereign of the Universe. He possesses full authority to grant, delay, or even deny our requests if doing so prevents harm to our souls in the future. Jesus knew perfectly well that the suffering of the cross was terrifying. Humanly speaking, He prayed for the cup of suffering to pass. Yet, the culmination was found in the closing sentence of His prayer: a total surrender of His rights to the will of the Father. Surrendering our desires and accepting a 'No' from God is never easy. However, His wisdom always far surpasses our human logic. God's refusal is frequently His most tangible form of protection. Stop forcing God to conform to your schedule and ambitions. Approach Him with reverence and obedience. Conclude every prayer and life struggle with the conviction: 'Not my will, but Yours be done.'
