THE DANGER OF SELFISHNESS IN MARRIAGE
Whether we realize it or not, one of the most lethal enemies inside a marriage bond is the spirit of competition. Often, husbands and wives unconsciously compete fiercely within their own homes just to prove whose argument is right, to keep score of who sacrificed more time, or to demand recognition for who is the most exhausted from working for the family.
This transactional mindset transforms a household that should be a small sanctuary into a scorching battlefield. When sacred marriage vows are spoken at the altar, God unites two distinct individuals into one flesh. Therefore, in a healthy marriage, there is absolutely no room for unilateral victory.
Scripture Reference:
'Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but in humility regard one another as better than yourselves.' โ Philippians 2:3
Reflection Points for Today:
- Crushing the Spirit of Competition: If a husband successfully dismantles his wife's argument with harsh words, he actually wins nothing; instead, he is wounding a part of his own body.
- Prioritizing Your Spouse: Marriage is a team rowing the same boat. If one party becomes apathetic and drills holes in that boat out of sheer ego, both will sink together.
Strip away all forms of arrogance and the constant need to always be right. Begin viewing your spouse not as a rival, but as the missing piece that completes your life. Cultivate the humility to always put your spouse's happiness first. -TPC
