WHO SHOULD TAKE THE FIRST STEP?

Inside the everyday theater of marriage, husbands and wives often stumble into a quiet deadlock that slowly drains the life out of the home. A well-known psychological observation hits remarkably close to home: 'It is easier to love a submissive wife, and it is easier to respect a loving husband.' This dynamic makes complete sense on a human level, because our natural instinct is to treat kindly only those who treat us pleasantly in return. Yet, this exact friction point exposes the true measure of our spiritual maturity. When a husband stubbornly waits for his wife to submit first, while the wife holds back her respect waiting for her husband to love first, the result is an icy standoff. Both parties retreat behind fortress walls of self-preservation, refusing to give an inch for the sake of healing.

Scripture challenges this defensive posture head-on. Romans 12:10 urges believers to love one another genuinely and take the lead in showing honor. Peace within the four walls of your house will never emerge as long as quiet pride whispers that your spouse must change first. Christian faith calls us to follow Christ by taking the radical step of moving forward without demanding guarantees or reciprocity.

Do not allow the peace within your marriage to remain held hostage by a stubborn refusal to yield. Ask the Holy Spirit for genuine greatness of heart today, and make the conscious, deliberate choice to be the one who initiates grace. Be a true peacemaker right where you live.
