WHEN GOD'S ANSWER IS NO
As children of God, we naturally rejoice when He answers our prayers with a 'YES'. We often still have the capacity to be patient when God asks us to 'WAIT'. But how is the response of our heart when God, with the firmness of His love, answers our plea with a 'NO'? Disappointment, anger, and the feeling that God has abandoned us are frequently the initial reactions welling up from our fallen human nature.
This experience was not foreign to a giant of the faith like the Apostle Paul. He bore a severe physical and mental torment, which he termed a 'thorn in the flesh'. Three times he begged earnestly for the Lord to take it away, but the answer he received plainly was 'NO'. Why? Because God's 'No' is never a form of rejection, but rather a protective shield. Our Father in heaven knows precisely what has the potential to ruin our spiritual life.
Perhaps the promotion you are chasing would actually make you arrogant and distance you from God. God locks a door because He sees an abyss of destruction lying right behind it. The greatest miracle God performs is not always changing circumstances to fit our will, but transforming our hearts so we are able to accept and rejoice in His will.
If you are crying today because a door of prayer has been shut tightly by God, learn to trust His sovereignty. God's heart is far too good to plot your ruin. Receive His grace, which is continuously sufficient to sustain your life. -TPC
