BUILDING CHARACTER THROUGH REAL ACTION ON THE WEEKEND
We have reached the weekend, a time when laziness and the urge to completely check out often take over our homes. Too often, we as parents surrender to the atmosphere and let Saturday slip away meaninglessly. Every family member ends up isolated in their own rooms, glued to their phones and social media. We must realize clearly that resilient, independent, and responsible children are never formed lying in bed while playing online games. A child's true character is tested and revealed when they are taught to move, take responsibility, and work together on real-world tasks.
Let us invite our children to get out of bed, put their phones away for a moment, and actively involve them in household chores, joint exercise, or tangible community service. The Apostle Paul in Colossians 3:23 offers a very powerful piece of advice for all our actions: 'Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord'. In the original Greek text, the phrase 'with all your heart' is written as แผฮบ ฯฯ ฯแฟฯ (ek psyches), which literally means 'out of your deepest soul'. Through this verse, Paul affirms that in the life of following Christ, everything we do is an act of worship. Sweeping the floor, helping parents, or honing non-academic skills on a Saturday, when done with a sincere heart, is a living sacrifice that shapes our children's mental fortitude so they do not grow up into spoiled and fragile individuals.
Let us make this Saturday a moment for our entire family to rise above the harmful habits of idleness. Knock on your children's doors with warmth, invite them to move, and engage in productive real-world activities. May our homes this weekend be filled with laughter, wholesome conversations, and strong character growth in the Lord. -TPC
