A MOTHER'S PRAYER: BREAKING THE CURSE INTO A BLESSING
When we watch our children hit a wall of failure, display stubborn defiance, or seem entirely devoid of a future, our immediate reflex as parents is often to scold, complain, or speak harsh words. We easily forget that parental speech carries immense spiritual weight. The negative sentences hurled in moments of frustration act like mental chains that crush a child\'s self-worth. Today, we examine a figure whose story commenced in profound agony yet culminated in deep honor through the power of prayer: Jabez. His mother named him Jabez because she bore him in pain, a name that functioned as a lifelong label branding him as a harbinger of misery. Yet, Jabez refused to surrender to fate or the negative verdicts of those around him. He knew precisely where to direct his life, relying neither on raw muscle nor emotional outbursts, but dropping to his knees to cry out to the God of Israel. The Hebrew text in 1 Chronicles 4:10 records Jabez\'s prayer using an intense, emphatic phrase: ×Ö¸ÖŧרÖĩ×Ö° ×ĒÖ°Öŧ×ָרֲ×Öĩ× Ö´× (barek tebarakeni), which literally means \'If You will truly dismantle my life and bless me!\' Jabez kneeled to ask God to redirect his bleak trajectory, and the Bible records that God granted his request, causing him to grow into a man far more honored than his brothers. This Friday, let us take a moment to kneel earnestly for our children, calling out their names one by one before the Lord. Cast off all disappointment regarding their academic shortcomings and speak blessings over their futures, because a parent\'s prayer offered from bended knees holds staggering power to alter the course of a child\'s life.
