WAITING FOR THE COMING KING
Amid the relentless pursuit of career milestones, mortgage payments, and retirement planning, modern believers often lose sight of a foundational eschatological reality: Jesus Christ is coming back. We become so comfortable with this temporary world, building our minor empires here, that we forget our true citizenship is in heaven. We live as though this fading earth is our permanent address, trading eternal reverence for immediate convenience.
Yet, the second coming of the Lord is not meant to terrify the faithful; it is the ultimate fulfillment of our hope. It marks the definitive dawn when all suffering, disease, grief, and tears will be wiped away forever. But this waiting is far from passive. Waiting for Christ means engaging more deeply in rescue work for lost souls, refining our personal character, and living alert in holiness so that when the trumpet sounds, we are found as faithful servants.
Scripture reminds us in Revelation 22:12: 'Look, I am coming soon, and my reward is with me, to repay each one according to what he has done.' Two daily reflections anchor this truth. First, living alert: no human knows the day or hour of His return, requiring our hearts to remain unchained by sin and spiritually awake. Second, bearing eternal fruit: the brevity of our earthly window should propel us to serve God with absolute earnestness, investing in things that neither moth nor rust can destroy.
Let us approach our weekly worship with eyes fixed on the sky, while keeping our feet planted firmly to labor in the world. Do not let the glitter of this age dim the flame of your faith. Serve faithfully until the final line, for the crown of life awaits you. Maranatha, come Lord Jesus!
