ABRAHAM: FAITH THAT ACTS BEFORE SEEING
We often demand full clarity and guaranteed safety before we are willing to obey God's commands. However, the story of Abraham's calling gives us a completely different paradigm of faith. God told him to go to a land he did not even know.
If we dissect the original text, God's command in Genesis 12:1 uses the Hebrew phrase ืึถืึฐ-ืึฐืึธ (Lech-Lecha). Literally, this is not just an ordinary word for 'go', but carries a reflexive emphasis meaning 'go for your own sake' or 'go toward your true self'.
Ancient Near Eastern cultural context shows that leaving one's country, relatives, and father's house meant completely forfeiting one's inheritance, legal identity, and total social security. Abraham was asked to become a 'nobody' in a foreign land in order to be shaped by God into the father of nations.
Today's Reflection Points:
1. Unconditional Obedience: True faith is tested when we are willing to let go of our comfort zones and human guarantees in order to step into God's plan, which is not yet clearly visible to our eyes.
2. New Identity in God: When we dare to lose worldly attachments for God's sake, He is actually guiding us to discover our true identity and genuine blessing.
Let us live this Monday with a fresh courage of faith. If God is currently asking you to step out or leave bad old habits, obey without delay. Trust that at the end of that path of obedience, His wonderful promise awaits us.
God bless you!
