JOSEPH: INTEGRITY IN THE SILENCE
The greatest test of integrity in our lives is not when we are being watched by many people or our supervisors. Rather, it happens when we are in a quiet place, far from the reach of family, and not a single person recognizes who we are. Joseph faced this massive character test firsthand inside Potiphar's house. When Potiphar's wife propositioned Joseph day after day, Joseph rejected her with a profoundly strong theological argument. In the Hebrew text, the phrase used for 'so great an evil' is ×ָרָ×ĸÖ¸× ×Öˇ×Ö°Öŧ×Öš×Ö¸× (ha-ra'ah ha-gedolah). Joseph did not ground his decision merely on fear of Potiphar, but viewed adultery as a direct sin against God, namely ×Ö°×Ö¸×Ö¸××ĒÖ´× ×Öĩ××Öš×Ö´×× (ve-chata'ti le-Elohim). Culturally, Joseph was a foreign slave with no rights; if he had given in to Potiphar's wife, his political position might have become more secure. Yet, Joseph chose to reject that instant advantage in order to preserve moral purity before God, whose eyes never slumber. Let us ask the Holy Spirit to guard our hearts and minds from every form of moral compromise. Remember always that our character before God matters infinitely more than our reputation before humanity.
