STOP BEING A 'TOMATO CHRISTIAN' (REPENT-REPEAT)
Within the Christian community, a sharp satirical term often emerges: 'Tomato Christian', which stands for 'Tobat lalu Kumat'—meaning 'repent then relapse'. This phrase describes an ironic spiritual life cycle: today someone weeps over their sins, but tomorrow they fall right back into the exact same transgression. On Sunday, they bow at the church altar regretting all their wrongs, but when Monday arrives, they return to business fraud, spreading gossip, and unleashing bursts of anger as if their worship left no mark on them whatsoever.
Why does this kind of spiritual phenomenon happen? The answer is because often the remorse shown is merely an emotional reaction driven by the fear of punishment, rather than a deep-seated hatred for sin itself. Their sorrow remains shallow, devoid of a wholehearted renewal of the mind (metanoia).
God is immensely patient as He waits for our process of maturity, but we must never toy with His patience. Never treat the grace of salvation as a license to keep enjoying sin. Ask the Holy Spirit for a new heart and fresh strength today, so that your life genuinely reflects the glory of God. -TPC
